copying problems (1.96 / 24)
by hdjmdewitt on 2005-08-25 13:45:15 EDT

I am experiencing problems with software downloads. Within minutes of attemping to add software, my computer shuts down to sleep mode and becomes frozen. I must shut the power supply off, turn it back on and turn on the computer. This only happens during software downloads--all other programs work without interruption.

Wireless PCMCIA Cards and WIN98 (2 / 22)
by bhickson on 2005-11-30 17:24:43 EST

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 (running WIN98)with a SMC wireless PCMCIA card. It was working just fine until I put a WEP on the network. Now it won't work at all. I can't even get it to recognize the PCMCIA card. We have a Linksys Wireless Router. The other PCs are running WIN 2000 and XP and they don't have any issues with the WEP. I need to know if we have to buy a newer PCMCIA card or if I can do something to make it work with the current card. I would appreciate any help you can give to me. Thanks.

System ID (1.84 / 25)
by Makai on 2005-12-08 20:11:55 EST

I use a program called Final Scratch to DJ with. To use the program I have to register with the system ID of the laptop I'm using. I can only have two laptops registered at any one time. I deactivated one of my two registrations (an apple ibook) to use another laptop. This was fine until I went back to the original laptop (apple ibook) and tried to register it again. As the account had been deactivated on the ibook previously it wouldnt let me use that system ID again. Is there any way I can change the system ID so I can register the ibook again?

DualCore Proc (2.09 / 22)
by clydelang on 2006-01-08 17:06:30 EST

I recently purchased all Hardware and put together a very fine machine that I plan on using as a media center PC.
I had a local computer shop configure the machine and install the OS. As it turns out the Proc. is set up with hyperthreading not Dual Core. I paid over $300 for the Motherboard, $700 for Video Cards w/SLI, $400 for the Proc (and it is a Pentium D)and 2 Gig of DDR2. With all this Cash put into a box I would like for it to perform to its full capabilities. Can I re-Config this Machine to run as a Dual Core.
I do parametric modelling and Graphic Design and would like to have the best that I can afford. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

PC re-statrs itself during the playing of any PC game (1.96 / 26)

PC seems to restart during gameplay with every game. I have taken the steps of makings sure video card drivers are up to date and that the all spec requirements are met, for each game. I cannot seem to locate the problem. I have also brought it to CompUsa Service Dept., and they seem to have no results with this problem even after re-installing the operating system twice. Any suggestions on where I should look or who I should speak to?

lexmark x125 (2.04 / 25)
by renee02 on 2007-09-01 17:42:27 EDT

I am having a issue trying to setup my old printer to my new CPU. I can not seem to find the driver, I have tried the CD to download and the Lexmark website. The CPU is not picking up the printer. I also have an z12 and that printer is older then the x125 and I am not having an issue with is.

RECAP:
I downloaded the driver
Shut down
Hotstart the PC
connected the UBS line and pluged.

One more thing, I tried to locate the printer in my printer options and the printer is not on list. All of the other printers from Lexmart but not the X125.

Is there an issue with the modle.

Thanks someone.

CD/DVD drive no longer recognized - Registry problem (2.17 / 24)
by Martha on 2007-10-26 17:22:19 EDT

I have a relatively new PC(about 6 months)running Vista and have used my DVD/CD drive to play and burn CDs many times. As of about a week ago the drive (E:) no longer shows up in My Computer or Explorer, putting in a CD does not activate anything, and when I go into Control Panel/Device manager and click on the drive I see:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

I click the Check for solutions and get nothing back. I've tried to search for a new driver but apparently I have the most recent one so it doesn't re-install. I apparently need to fix the registry - how can I do this?

Please help!!

Trouble recording on to DVD+R media (2.25 / 24)

I am having trouble recording on to DVD+R media. I keep getting Write Errors. I am trying to copy DVD's that were created by me for other family members.

All CD/DVD drives on PC have problems reading discs (2 / 24)
by chrismrb on 2008-03-26 11:43:36 EST

I've been having problems lately with reading discs on all of the CD/DVD drives on my PC. I have a USB external LG CD/DVD burner drive, one internal CD burner drive, and one DVD read drive.
As a test I decided to use my external burner to burn a music CD via Itunes, the burn ran error free.
Within the same session of Itunes I tried to import the CD (this will allow me to save the tracks as mp3 instead of keeping them as m4p which is a protected file).
The import/rip started and about 1/2 thru the first track it failed with a read error.
I then tried to access the drive/disk via Windows Explorer but it gave me the error "Drive X is not accessible the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".
I popped the disk out and tried it on the 2 internal drives....neither worked.
I then took the CD out and played it in a CD player and it worked fine and then tried the same disc and the same external USB CD/DVD drive using a different PC running Windows XP and it was read/played fine in Itunes.

So the external drive was able to burn a disk cleanly but it couldn't even read it back on the desktop PC!!
that same disk can play in an audio cd player and different PC so that proves the disk is fine.

it got to be a Windows XP issue because a drive that can burn should be able to read
and that two other drives can't read a disk but a player can.

also, I have to power the external drive off and on to get the PC to recognize it after getting the disk i/o error.

please help!

dual OS drive letter cofusion (1.79 / 24)
by gmanny on 2008-03-30 04:10:40 EST

My computer had one hard disk partioned-c:-XP, d:-Win98, e:-data. Formated Fat32
I am able to choose which system to boot.
I have now added a second hard drive partioned-f:-data, g-data. Formated Fat32
With both drives connected, all is well and works OK.
When I now boot Win98, the some of the drive letters are mixed up (c:=c:, d:=f:, e:=d, g:=g"). This confusion does not allow me to operate programs in the 98 mode. Can you help me?

usb 1.0 & usb 2.0 (2.13 / 24)

i recently went installed a wireless network @ home. Im using a wireless G router with a Wireless USB Access Point. I cant get passed 10mpbs speed on the wireless. I know (G) is rated for 54mpbs, could it be that since my USB ports on my PC are only 1.0 which i was told that have a max speed of 10mpbs data transfer. USB 2.0 ports are rated at 400plus MPBS, Is the slow speed caused by me having the slower 1.0 USB ports? Should i buy a 2.0 USB PCI card? I just want to get the max speed of wireless G network. Thanks for your help

Hello, I bought this computer out of the news paper, that had been custom built... but i have had nothing but problems out of it.... everything i try and install exept a select few programs, wont install... i ALWAYS get a message like Corrupt install file, or cab file doesnt match path... at first i took allot of suggestions and thought it was my ethernet card, being a compatability issue, so i put in a new one, and no different... just too eliminate tyhe posiblilty of it being my network card , i tried to install some games from cd's.... none would install, theyd get along way through setup and then id get an error message. The Motherboard on this PC is unheard of and ive tried several diff. pieces of hardware and no compatability issues. Im runnin xp and my specs are as follows : Win xp SP3 , 32 bit, Intel pentium 4 2800 mhz Motherboard is : LENOVO 73935BU its an IBM product Ati radeon HD 2400 pro and 1022.04 mb ddr2 ram and a Creative sound card.....but like i say NOTHING hardly wants to extract mainly installing from internet, floppy,cd, etc. always a cab file error or CRC error or NCIS error or Doesnt match "corrupt" file error..... if anyone has any other suggestions besides hardware compatability, please let me know, i have formated several times and each time is the same, wether i use a sp2, sp3, beta, 64-bit , disk...always the same ... cant install... everything exept vista....nvr tried it....but i dont think i have enough HD Space n e how... i have even tried diff hd's, so i think its gotta be something with the motherboard.....but how can i repair this problem , NE ONE PLZ HELP!!! thx Shawn

another HDD2D38 question... not related to the first one. (1.88 / 25)
by Dukes233 on 2010-05-12 16:30:16 EDT

I recently acquired a Toshiba MK8034GSX HDD2D38 R ZK01 T 80 GB hard drive. I bought a standard external 2.5 Hard Drive Enclosure to utilize this Hard Drive as backup storage.

When I attempt to plug it in... it says that it is not formatted, so I try to format it. Well... Quick format didn't work, a SIX hour full format did not work either. Another friend of mine said to run a FDISK command in the CMD prompt, however I tried that with Windows Vista... and it doesn't recognize the command.

Is there an App out there that will allow me to scan the bad sectors, shut them down, do another full format, then be able to use it??

Thank you for your time.

Frequently to get help with a problem, a user is requested to turn over control of the PC to a remote facility to that their technicians can trouble shoot the issue. Does that release of control jeopardize the security of the computer? How could that release of control effect other computers that may be attached through a home network connection, even though the technicians never got access directly to those other PC's?
