Power protection (none / 0)
by Herman on 2005-08-20 20:41:50 EDT

What kind of power protection does everyone use on their computers? I use a Powerware UPS on any work machines that I have, and MGE surge protectors on my home machines.

I had this window pop up after I turned on my computer and typed in my password... it showed up shortly after that and stayed on after the desktop loaded ... and the window was blank with only "TPSRVS Services" at the top right corner of the window... and every now 'n then my mouse arrow has an hour glass pop up beside it like a program is opening yet nothing else is being used (to my knowledge)... can someone help me out here? thanks

SATA Hard Drive failed during Vista installation ... Trying to get back my data... (none / 0)
by luke_in67 on 2007-02-11 23:42:12 EST

It all happens when I was trying to upgrade my system with VISTA Well, I don’t know how but my hard drive died on me... and Vista won't boot. Interestingly, when I pop the drive into an external enclosure, and turn it on inside of VISTA, it causes the computer to crash, and restart. I spent some time searching these forums for some help, but figured after about 15 minutes, that I should start my own post.

I would love to do this recovery myself, but the data is very important and crucial that I don’t want to take any risk. Can anyone offer me some pointers as to where I might begin, given the strange crashing symptom?

Any and all help appreciated.

Failure to boot from hard drive (none / 0)
by jordan_768 on 2007-02-15 01:04:49 EST

I'll try to summarize the events leading up to my problem as best I can.

I have two hard drives. I tried installing Windows Vista Business on the first one to use in a dual-boot configuration with Windows XP which was on the second hard drive. Well, the Vista installation worked fine, but when I went to boot into XP, I found Vista's boot loader hadn't recognized Windows XP. Clearly frustrated, I tried several different things until I finally decided to format the first hard drive. It was horrible I lost my entire data from the Hard drive. Vista made my data vanish. I hate it. I tried using repair tool and many recovery software, but it did not work. Please help me out.

Laptop Inspiron 8100 Hard Disk crashes? (none / 0)
by luke_in67 on 2007-02-16 23:17:34 EST

I was on my laptop, Inspiron 8100, and everything was fine, no errors or anything. Took a break and when I came back my computer had a black screen. I tried to restart and it goes to the dell load page and windows Vista page but that’s it. It goes back and forth between the two pages. A blue screen pops up between them for about half a second. I took a picture of it so I could read it, the error code is 0x000000ed. After this when I restarted my laptop it showed me disk boot failure. Every time I tried to recover the HDD I failed and got the same message.

ADDING RAM 02-19-07 (none / 0)
by Sean12345 on 2007-02-19 23:11:28 EST

Hello. I wanted to play a video game called Battlefield 2 and I was having to wait REALLY long for it to load. I was told my RAM was very outdated and not fufilling the required 512 RAM. I bought 512RAM.

My computer is low end 1.83 Ghz, AMD Sempron 2600, 256RAM(P2700), XP version 2002. Desktop.

I have three RAM slots. The 256RAM was in the slot closest to the front of the CPU. and then two slots behind that. At first I kept the 256 RAM in the first slot, added the 512 RAM in the second slot bringing it to 770RAM. Would not work. Ram not equal or less to I think it said. So I took out the 256 in the first slot and replaced it with the 512RAM worked fine. But now i cant add the old 256 in the second or third slot to get 770 RAM. Any reason why? THANK YOU KINDLY.

Loosing My data Need Help (none / 0)
by jordan_768 on 2007-03-01 03:11:18 EST

On at least two occasions I have heard a sort of clicking noise (one or two at the most) coming from my pc. I have a 40 GB hd primary and a 160GB ide hd slave. I'm not sure if this is my hard drive failing. I have listened to the "failing hard drive" samples on I think maxtor or sony's site and the first sample sounded similar to the noise I heard, only the noise didn't repeat over and over, it just sounded once or twice really quickly.
Also, my system has been crashing and I don't know if this is because of a program I installed or if it is my hard drive actually starting to fail. Is there a way to check what is causing it to crash? If I post the error report the next time it crashes, would someone be able to decipher what the cause is?
