In what ways do you use computers? (none / 0)
by Herman on 2005-08-20 20:13:25 EDT

Hello,

In what ways does everyone like to use computers? Does anyone have any favourite computer games or web sites? Do you like to use computers at home, at work, at school, or somewhere else completely different?

How much should a computer technician charge? (none / 0)
by Herman on 2005-08-30 11:53:09 EDT

How much do you feel is a fair price for computer technicians to charge for their work?

How do you decide what's too low, and what's too high? and who should pay for the "research time" that a technician has to spend to stay current?

Auto Entry Boxes (none / 0)
by peterasmith on 2006-06-01 09:13:13 EDT

This might not be the right term, but you the ones...where you type one character and the box 'suggests' all the words you have entered before beginning with that letter. For example, the search boxes on any search engine.

So how do I clear such a box's 'memory'? And can I clear the memory on just one type of box?

bandwidth (none / 0)
by tom on 2006-06-28 17:57:01 EDT

Hi, does anyone know if adding a HI Speed USB PCI Card to your computer will increase your bandwidth. I have purchased the ATI TV Wonder USB TV Tuner, which requires more bandwidth than my USB controller can hold.
If anyone can help me, email me at tpb1994@hotmail.com(preffered), or you can reply to this message

Computer comes back from hibernate by itself (none / 0)
by dojinacu on 2007-07-03 01:04:09 EDT

I normally put my computer into hibernate when I go to sleep to save power but sometimes it randomly comes back from hibernate. I don't press any buttons or do anything to the computer, it just unhibernates by itself. Anyone know how this happens?

Which memory? (none / 0)
by wink1018 on 2007-10-21 23:10:25 EDT

I have just purchased a Dell Optiplex GX270 SFF. I wish to upgrade it's memory. All of the literature I've read states that it will handle either 2Gb of PC2700 or 1Gb of PC3200 max. My question is... Of the two above mentioned memory configurations, which will give me the best performance? Does the extra gig of slower memory outweigh the performance of half of the faster?

Thanks in advance,

Wink

PC LOOSES ITS SETTING (none / 0)
by hahall47 on 2008-01-02 11:37:33 EST

I need help. I purchased a Biostar Motherboard from Tiger.com and built a computer which I am satisfied with, expect it will not maintain its setting.

When its disconnected or the power goes off the BIOS setting default to the original setup screen. At the next boot it will not start unless I go into the BIOS to make changes.

I replaced the battery several times and got the same results.

Can you help me with possible causes for this response?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

keeping out of trouble (none / 0)

Windows Reinstall and Backup Data (none / 0)
by smithtime on 2008-06-18 15:34:11 EDT

I am preparing to reinstall Windows XP SP2/3 because it's time. This is the first time I am going to do this. My questions are:

1) If I am going to reinstall Windows, do I need any information about my network (a cable modem & router)? What should I ask my ISP for - what settings if any?
2) I have 100 GB of space ready to backup my data. What is the best way to go about this? My system shipped with a Tech-in-the-Box application which can be used for both backup and recovery.
3) My Seagate external hard drive included a disc which contains a backup software and documentation. Is this designed to work on the external drive or the hard drive on my computer?

I ask these questions because I don't just want to pop in the discs and "see what happens" - thanks for any help!

Hello,

I am in the midst of trying to network 2 computers (a Windows XP circa 2003, and a Windows 2000 Professional PC I received from my job) together. I have picked up Netgear Fast Ethernet Switch and have the cables connected.
The XP is the primary PC that I have the internet connected to. I am getting a "Limited connectivity on the XP and it appears that the 2000 is connected but I am not able to access anything. Please help

Thank you

PC shutting down on it's own (none / 0)
by razorsedge on 2008-10-18 10:58:14 EDT

My PC keeps shutting down on it's own, sometimes when I just turn it on, it will shut down right away. Other times it will come on and after awhile shut down. I tried replacing the fan but that did not doing anything. I'm not sure what is wrong with it.

Card Reader Trouble (none / 0)
by pcplodder on 2008-10-20 17:00:49 EDT

I've just got a new Packard Bell machine - low end - with a card reader built in. But I've had no luck getting it to see either SD or XD cards. I expected the reader, or even each slot, to come up as a drive with the appropriate letter. e.g. F, G, H etc. But nothing in the tree at all.
Am I looking in the wrong place? Is this something Vista is trying to make easy for me?!?!

Any clues gratefully received.
